NEXT LEVEL PITCHING!

Are you planning on playing on Bermuda grass this winter?  When hitting pitch shots on this type of grass, it is essential that you have the proper form that will prevent you from taking too much ground before the ball. In order to hit these shots with consistency, creating a situation where you are setup for more of a “sweeping” action, rather than a “digging” action is ideal.  Here’s a few tips to help you to master the pitch shot!

At Setup:

Allow your arms to hang straight down under your shoulders.  Grab the club with your hands directly in front of the center of your body.  Lean slightly toward the target.
Slightly open your clubface.  This will point the club slightly to the right of target (for the right handed player).  A slightly open clubface sets the club in a position where the leading edge is less prone to dig.
Angle your stance slightly to the left to offset the clubface being aimed slightly to the right.

The Swing:

Take the club back on plane.
Minimize your wrist hinge during the backswing.
Slightly shift your weight further left, and rotate your body through the hitting area.  This will help you to achieve “ball then turf” contact.  You can think “belt buckle towards the target”.
